What is the Pride in Place Programme?
Pride in Place is a government-funded programme that brings investment into local areas, so residents can help improve their neighbourhood and make it a better place to live.
How is this different from previous funding schemes?
This is different because it is community-led. Local people will be at the heart of decisions, rather than plans being decided elsewhere.
What does “community-led” mean?
It means local people have a real say. Decisions about how funding is used should reflect what residents want for their area.
Who decides what happens in my area?
Local communities do. A group called the Neighbourhood Board will decide how the money is spent, based on what residents say they want.
How much money will our area get?
Birchen Coppice could receive up to £20 million over 10 years to invest in local improvements.
What can the money be spent on?
This depends on what local people want. It could include:
Improving parks, streets, or local spaces
Creating or improving community facilities
Supporting local services
Helping people with jobs, skills, or wellbeing
Activities for children and young people
The interventions have been drafted broadly to give flexibility to Boards as to how and what they can deliver, providing examples where possible to indicate ideas for spend, but it is not an exhaustive list and local people can choose to do other projects providing this is supported by the Council and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
What could change in my area?
Examples could include:
Cleaner and safer streets
Improved parks and green spaces
Better services or community facilities
How can residents have their say?
It’s important that residents get involved. The Board must listen to the community before making decisions.
